Bill Beacham– Principal, SFPS Ret’d.
I am more than pleased to endorse Steven Carrillo for re-election to the SFPS school board. In my 32 years as an elementary principal, I worked for ten superintendents who served as many or more school boards and countless board members. Without a doubt, Steven Carrillo stands out, in my mind, above many other dedicated and effective board members over those years. He educates himself on all board topics and issues and, more incredibly, he keeps the needs of children and families as a guiding light for his positions and votes.
Most impressive to me is the fact that he visited my school and attended more evening events than any other board member I have known. These visitations, for the most part, were because he took the time to research what was happening in the schools he serves and came to see the children. He has been effective in his past terms, and models a respectful demeanor in meetings. Children, families, and school employees need Steven Carrillo on our school board.
It’s simple. I don’t think the Early College Opportunity high school would be here or have the GO bond funding it needs if not for Steve’s efforts. On the Citizen’s Review Committee and on the Board he made this a priority for our students and our community. Any student who graduates from ECO can thank Steve among others for championing this important endeavor.
Frank Montano – Former City Councilor – Santa Fe, Former Board Member – SFPS
I’m very pleased to support Steve Carrillo to serve a third term on the board. When I think back, Steve and I may have disagreed and sparred a few times over the years, but I would never question his commitment to putting our kids first when he was making a decision. Steve, you do us proud.
Dr. Linda Besett – Retired SFPS Principal
I had the honor of being the principal at Wood Gormley and can say it was a real pleasure knowing Steve and his son Leo. Steve was always very active in our community and as a board member. Even as Leo continued on to middle and high school, Steve was always present for students, and for that matter, all of the students in the District. He never missed greeting the parents and students on the first day of school or at a sixth-grade promotion ceremony. Steve is committed to serve!
Sam Pick – Former Mayor, Santa Fe
Three words; dedicated public servant. You represent us well, Steve. Thanks for all you do. Keep up the great work.
Ahlum Scarola – Former Principal, SFPS
Steve has been the unofficial board member for Mandela since we opened. He was a strong advocate to create the IB magnet school and he has always shown up for us; whether to support needed capital projects, addressing our kids at assemblies, or attending special events. He did the same when I was the principal at Acequia Madre. I know he’ll continue to serve the district and our community very well.
Sharon Doye – Principal, SFPS Ret’d.
I have known Steve Carrillo for about 15 years, and really appreciate all of his hard work, and heartfelt concern for the children of Santa Fe.
Mariah Runyon – Former Principal, Capital High School
Capital isn’t even one of the schools in Steve’s district but he’s consistently the only board member we would ever see at events; art openings, theatre, athletic games, and academic awards ceremonies. He genuinely supports and cares about our kids. He raised money for our activities fund and took a special interest in seeing to it that Capital was held in high regard in Santa Fe. I will always be grateful for Steve’s efforts.
Steven Carrillo is a two-term board member running for re-election for the Santa Fe Public School Board District 1. He has prioritized our kids, stood up to the NRA, fought for fact-based science standards and advocated for us at the legislature. We need Steve's leadership and advocacy on our school board. Help us re-elect Steve!
